Our SEL Curriculum
Empowering Students. Building Agency.
Core4 SEL
Core4 SEL weaves together identity, belonging, mastery, and efficacy to ensure every student feels seen, heard, and empowered to lead.
Core4 isn’t just about SEL. Its about helping schools build community of belonging.
What is The Agency Framework?
The Agency Framework is built on four essential components-Identity, Belinging, Mastery, and Efficacy- that help students develope confidence, resilience, and the ability to create change in their lives and communities. This framework was published by Shane Safir and Jamila Dugan in their book Street Data: A Next-Generation Model for Equity, Pedogogy, and School Transformation.
Why does Core4 SEL use this framework?
- Prepares students for the future by helping them thin critically, collaborate, and advocate for themselves and others.
- Enhances academic and emotional growth by fostering engagement, resilience, and problem-solving skills.
- Supports equity and inclusion by ensuring all students feel values and capable of success.
- Naturally embeds CASEL competencies throughout units.

Created By Real Students for Real Impact
The result? A curriculum that’s not only relevant, but deeply rooted in the realities of the classroom.
Our Co-Design Process Includes:
- Accounting for the lived experiences of students
- Collaborations with teachers to ensure lessons are practical and engaging
- Feedback loops where both students and educators shape revision.
- Time for teachers to work with and adjust SEL content before full rollout
Our curriculum is responsive, inclusive, and actually works where it matters most: in community.
We partnered with Libertas College Prep to launch and evaluate our curriculum.
Here’s what we found:
- Faculty Confidence: Teachers felt more prepared to talk about identity and race.
- Student Engagement:
- Students opened up and leaned in during activities.
- Stronger School Culture:
- Conversations about race and identity became more frequent and respectful.

I think that [the trainers] were really thorough, and I liked having full days for it because I think that if it was any less, it would be a little bit harder to rush through it.

What Teachers Are Saying
“It felt digestible for this age group… and helped even adults feel more comfortable having these conversations.”
“If the training were any shorter, it would’ve felt rushed. The full-day format was perfect.”
“
It felt like it was easily digestible for this age group, and I feel like that can be a tough thing to achieve. And I think it also helps [even adults] break down the barrier of having these conversations with students because I feel like a lot of times adults and even educators can be afraid to have these conversations because they feel taboo.
